At Education Space Consultancy we provide a Curriculum Modelling & Reporting service that accurately determines the number, type and capacity teaching spaces our clients require for a target academic year, given predicted curriculum demand.
This service factors in a wide range of factors, such as changes in student numbers, courses, teaching delivery and much more. This enables us to test different scenarios for our clients and measure the impact that different demands will have on teaching space requirements.
The Department of Education has recently recognised this practice (Planned Guided Learning Hours method) for determining future space requirements as best practice (more information on this here) within the FE sector. We agree with the DoE and regard this space planning method as providing high value estate planning data, that institutions can use for ensuring the correct mixture of teaching spaces are provided when required and capital investment is spent wisely.
For this Curriculum Modelling service, we build the project specification to reflect your requirements. This can include;
- Onsite curriculum consultation workshops – ESC consultants and institution staff work together in order to create a curriculum map for each course and determine the space requirements per teaching week for each module/subject delivered within each curriculum. (Optional service for those institutions that do not have this information available)
- Onsite teaching space review – ESC survey manager to carry out a physical check of teaching spaces included within project, assessing current capacities, space types, functionality and if needed, the measuring of each teaching spaces Net Internal Area. This can also include a AutoCAD workplace plan design for each space if requested. (Optional service for those institutions that do not have this information available).
- Curriculum modelling analysis -We then carry out a curriculum modelling data analysis exercise, incorporating the project’s/scenario’s range of specifications in order to determine the number and capacity of spaces required per space type and the resulting NIA requirement, for the target year or years.
- Multiple scenario testing – We can use this method of determining teaching requirements, to easily test the impact of a range of different scenarios such as differing student number predictions, changes in teaching delivery, contact hours, core teaching hours and much more. Our clients can therefore
- Curriculum modelling consultancy report & presentation – ESC provides the client with a detailed consultancy report that compares the requirement for space against that currently (or planned to be) available. This includes analysis, conclusions and recommendations that aim to provide our clients with effective strategies for tackling any highlighted under/over resourcing effectively. A senior ESC manager can then present the findings and recommendations to the client and answer any related questions
