This is the third episode in the Teaching Space Utilisation Survey Data Video Tutorial Series this time looking at how to create site and building frequency, occupancy and utilisation results, tables and graphs.
I have used Microsoft Excel to put together these results, tables and graphs, therefore in addition to providing a video a downloadable version of the spreadsheet used is also available below. For this episode although new techniques have been used, there are not any formulas that haven’t been used in previous episodes therefore a additional formula sheet hasn’t been provided.
These data analysis techniques start to break the overall space utilisation down into categories, that can highlight areas of weaknesses and strengths. For example, a site may have a significantly lower utilisation rate than the other sites. You can then investigate this site further; are there specific buildings, space types, days/times or rooms with low utilisation rates – what is the cause? Once you found the cause or causes within the data, you can then begin to investigate this further with those responsible for the management/booking/use of the space(s) effected.
