NSS Q15 – 2015’s Top 20 Institutions And The 20 Greatest Improvements

September 7, 2015 By Ben Moreland, Director, Education Space Consultancy

This is the third and final article that looks at the institution NSS 2015 results for timetabling related questions, this time taking a look at the Q15: The course is well organised and is running smoothly results. This is the final question within the “Organisation and management” section of the NSS questions and again timetabling is very likely to be a prominent factor that impacts on the students scoring for this question.

As with before only those institutions that have received +250 student responses via the NSS survey have been included within the tables shown below, however links have been provided below the tables that include all of the results.

Those institutions with less than 250 students have been removed so that those with larger cohorts of students can compare their results against other institutions of similar size.

This first table highlights those institutions that recorded the highest NSS results for Q15: The course is well organised and is running smoothly in 2015.

As the table above indicated the University of Buckingham recorded the highest result for Q15 in 2015, with an actual value of 91%. The University of Keele recorded the second highest result of 90%, with The University of Surrey and Loughborough University recording the third highest results of 89%.

The Open University with 15,635 responses is the largest institution included in the NSS and recorded the eight highest result for this question. Loughborough University recorded the highest percentage of question 5 answers (55%), whilst eight of the institutions included in the table above recorded the lowest percentage of question 1 answers (1%).

Another useful tool for measuring success in relation to the NSS Q15: The course is well organised and is running smoothly is to determine how this year’s results compare to the last. The following table highlights the top 20 institutions that have seen the greatest rise in NSS results for Q15 in 2015 compared to 2014.

As with Q13 and Q14, Liverpool Hope University has seen the greatest increase in results for 2015, increasing from 59% in 2014 to 79% in 2015, a 20% increase! Ravensbourne, has seen the second greatest increase in results (15%), whilst Leeds College Art and The Royal Veterinary College have both seen the third greatest increase in results (12%).

The University of Portsmouth is the only institution to be included in both the top 20 institutions and the top 20 greatest improvements tables, increasing from 78% in 2014 to 84% in 2015. The City University with a 2015 result of 82% and Swansea University with a 2015 result of 81%, are now only just outside the top 20 institutions for this question.
