T Levels are a new Level 3, 2-year occupational route study programme to be offered alongside A Levels and Apprenticeships from 2020. This is an undeniably exciting step forward for the provision of Technical Education in England and an exciting opportunity for students, colleges, and employers.
T Levels is set to provide students with:
- An approved technical qualification
- Meaningful work placement with an employer lasting 45-60 days
- English, Maths and Digital Requirements
- Any licence to practice requirements for that occupation
- Enrichment and tutorial time
How Can Colleges Benefit From T-Levels?
The provision of T Levels is planned to be rolled out within 3 academic years. A list of 50 providers to deliver T Levels from September 2020 has been released and applications are underway for the delivery from September 2021. Another 50-75 institutions will be selected to deliver T Level qualifications in areas such as onsite construction, building services engineering, digital support and services, digital business services, health, healthcare science and science.
In order to provide T Levels £500 million have been assigned to finance this extensive project, with an additional £38 million available in the Capital Fund. This therefore offers a unique opportunity for funding college refurbishment or expansion of current estates.
